Museum volunteer, educator and artist Charles Watson has completed a total reorganization of the art gallery at the Museum, transforming the old amalgamation of aviation pieces into a formal section of the Museum that can now stand with the best of galleries in Kansas.
The public opening of the James W. Mirick Gallery of Aviation Art took place on Saturday, April 28th during the Celebrity Pancake Feed. Jim Mirick taught art full-time at Kansas City Kansas Community College from 1965 to 1999 and several of his pieces, such as “Road Runner” and “Morning Rises” are on permanent display at the KCKCC Art Gallery.
In addition, Mirick’s works have been on display at various galleries throughout Kansas over the years.
Come and enjoy the expression of aviation art that Watson has gathered together, especially for the outstanding examples of Mirick art on display, pieces on loan to the Combat Air Museum from the Museum of the Kansas National Guard in Topeka.
